A wee photo from Farida’s Wizard Party on Saturday – what a fantastic class of young Wizards, Witches and Warlocks! They managed to do all the manoeuvres in their broom training! Top marks and gold stars all round!
World Book Day 2017
World Book Day is almost upon us! And while parents everywhere are putting together last minute costumes for their kids to wear at school on Thursday, I’m preparing a couple of sets for Kaimhill and Hill of Banchory Primaries
🙂
Stories of Science at Strathearn Science Festival
So this weekend I was lucky enough to meet this beautiful wee hissing cockroach as well as the wonderful ladies of Animates who are based in the North East.  No cockroaches featured in any of the stories but Raven, Orion, Scorpio, The Milky Way, Pele the Volcano Goddess, Duban the Sage, the Rainbow Crow, Archimedes, Piltdown Man, Tiddilik the Frog and of course  Roald Dahl’s disgusting armchair beer all got a mention!
My set of stories about science is available for any science festival, exhibition, school, or even birthday parties! Â Prior to my life as a party organiser, I worked as an environmental and analytical chemical in the North East oil industry and I love anything that connects science and the arts!
Have a look at the “contacts” page to find out how to make a booking.
Strathearn Science Festival
I’m all set for telling stories at tomorrow’s Science Festival at Strathearn in Crieff! Â I’m super excited to be telling stories of volcanoes, the sun, moon and stars, medicine, evolution and weather along with a couple of tales of famous scientists and famous hoaxes!
“Have you ever wondered what the world was like when we didn’t know so much? Why were the stars in the sky and who made it rain? Why did the up stay up and the down stay down? Why did the owl not sleep at night and why did the frog always live near water? Why did we have night and day, winter and summer?
Stories have been passed down for thousands of years that explain the world around us and as we learned more over the centuries, they were still told alongside new discoveries in astronomy, zoology, physics, biology, weather and chemistry, maths and geology.
“Join storyteller and scientist Pauline Cordiner for a fun look through some of these tales and the experiences of famous scientists – with a few famous hoaxes thrown in for good measure! Suitable for ages 3 to 103!
“Booking is required: Show times are 10:30; 11:30; 13:30 and 14:30 – Saturday only”

Crimes of Passion

A special storytelling event called “Crimes of Passion” was held on Thursday 16th February as an alternative to Valentine’s Day! Â Pauline, Fiona Jane Brown of Hidden Aberdeen Tours and GAS’s Izzie Addison told gory, heartbreaking, amusing and sometimes true tales from Aberdeen’s history of Bloody Valentines!
This is a photo of Pauline telling a very old folk tale – a variant on the Robber Bridegroom called “Mr Fox.”
Upcoming Event – Strathearn Science Festival – 25th February 2017, Crieff

National Storytelling Week – a visit to Arduthie Primary School
So yesterday I was telling stories at Arduthie Primary School and Nursery! It’s currently National Storytelling Week so the bairns heard all about the ancient tradition of telling stories – don’t you just love the setting that the P6s made for me to tell stories in!? Look at the giant haggis on the stool next to the fire!
The children heard stories about Kelpies, wicked lairds, a beautiful wee moosie, a volcano goddess, how the moon came to be in the sky and how the devil was defeated by Jack!
P6 teacher Mandy Philip said “Thank you so much for a fantastic day of storytelling at Arduthie! The kids and teachers loved it and haven’t stopped speaking about it. Come back soon!! X”
– If I get the same wonderful greeting again, I’m bound to come back!
😀
Thanks Arduthie for being so AWESOME!

Free Burns Supper?
I know they say there’s no such thing as a free dinner, but in this case it’s really true!
The RGU Go Green cafe runs most Friday evenings at Ruthrieston Community Centre (Holburn Street) and uses food that is perfectly good but would other wise be thrown out – everyone is welcome (not just students) and the food is free 🙂
I’ll be singing for my supper this Friday though as I’ll be one of the entertainers doing a bit of Burns for the masses 🙂  Maybe a wee story and a couple of my favourite Burns songs.  Maybe see you there!

Burns at Hill of Banchory Nursery
Well Fizzy and I had a great time yesterday at Hill of Banchory Nursery!
We told the tale of the wee sleekit courin timrous beastie who fell in love with another beautiful fieldmouse, sang her a love song (he’d meet her on The Lea Rig), and then had to convince her parents that he was good enough to marry her ![]()
Then we all sang the Scottish version of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes! Can you all guess how that went ? ![]()
Thanks for having us along yesterday everyone! It was a wonderful day
