Thanks so much to everyone at HANDSS who made me (and Fizzy the Fairy!) feel so welcome yesterday
I told the story of Assipattle and the Mester Stoor Wurm and then we made up our own story which included children from the group and some rather special animals
For anyone with children who have learning or additional support needs, I thoroughly recommend HANDSS (info below!) Fizzy and I were made to feel so welcome. Lovely to meet you all! xxx
HANDSS group is an Aberdeen city and shire club for children aged 5 to 15 years, who receive support for learning, or have additional support needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. A wide variety of sports, activities and games, arts and crafts are on offer in a safe, friendly environment. Parents stay at HANDSS, giving the chance for a catch up, to share tips and have a cuppa. Siblings are welcome to attend.
Weekly sessions run during term time, on Tuesdays from 18:15-19:30 at Bridge of Don Community Centre (£2 per child). Our weekly sessions take place in the Games hall and GP room, however, we also run trips and activities around the city and shire, for e.g. beach barbeques, bowling and visits to the Panto, as well as having special visitors join the group on occasion:- Iona the guide dog, Kev from Sounds Light Sensory and local community police officers.
HANDSS is a group run by parents, so weekly activities and the trips can be tailored to suit the interests and needs of the children who attend.
