Festival of the Sea 2026!

Woohoo! I’m delighted to announce that there will be three storytelling events on Saturday 18th July 2026 at St Mary’s Chapel, St Nicholas Kirk as part of Aberdeen’s #FestivalOfTheSea2026 @AberdeenCC

The first event from 1 to 2.30pm, is a shadow puppet workshop, “Silhouettes of the Sea” aimed at children aged 8 upwards and their grown ups(s). Workshop attendees will learn the basics of creating shadow puppets with a nautical theme connecting to Aberdeen’s maritime past and stories – fish, whales, fishermen and fishwives, even our 17th century privateer! Tickets are £5 per child (plus booking fee) – accompanying adult is free.

CHARLIE THE ELF – A SHADOW PUPPET ADVENTURE!

Oh I’m soooo behind with my socials!

But I just HAVE to share this super image of the shadow puppets the absolute STARS at Aye Aye Club made on Monday night.

These were all from the story of Charlie the Elf who left Ireland behind and travelled across the ocean on the Good Ship Big Leaf – safely cooried up in a cabbage! (and didn’t make it to the gold rush… but got to South America by mistake and became rich mining Uranium!)

Fantastic shadow puppets and we had fun making them move using my wee shadow theatre set-up! (a light, a frame, some clips and a photographic screen that actually went back into its back afterwards)

All part of my two visits from the #sisfstoryripple25

And be sure to visit Aye Aye Club’s page and vote for your favourite joke! This was their good deed for the ripple and they smashed it once again! 😀

Last visit to my first Promise Group!

Tomorrow the pupils at my Promise Group get to see all their hard work spliced together into a film!

I’ve been hard at it editing sound, clips of shadow puppets and an introduction where the pupils used hand puppets. The whole school will get to see it too!

I was wondering what to do with their shadow puppets and asked if the school could find a space for them to go on display somewhere. I hope they like it! 🙂

Shadow Puppets with my Promise Group

My Wednesday Promise Group have really blown me away with their designs for our shadow puppets!

Each pupil shone in a different way – creativity, attention to detail, skillful drawing, enthusiasm, great description of their ideas and confidence to go ahead and make some amazing characters !!

And the dragon… well have you ever seen such a great creation? (Assembled by me this weekend, but following precise instructions)

Can’t wait to work with them (the puppets and the pupils 😂) on Wednesday!!
