Stonehaven Folk Festival!

Finally it’s here! It’s the Stonehaven Folk Festival !!

While I’m looking forward to the songs and the tunes and the World Paper and Comb Championship… I’m also really looking forward to … Telling Stories!

All my storytelling sessions are either FREE or COST ONLY £1 this year and 3 of them are FAMILY FRIENDLY!

Tonight – along the boardwalk, join me (and probably those nuisance fairies in the photo!) for STORIES ON THE RICKSHAW with The Stoney Rickshaw ! We’ll be leaving the Men’s shed about 7pm and making our way along the board walk, stopping somewhere there if there’s an audience for a wee tale. Then follow us to the harbour for some more stories, finishes 8pm.

Tomorrow – Saturday 8th July 10.30am – 11.30am. Join us for SINGING FOR KIDS – a workshop aimed at kids of all ages and their grown ups – Held at the Community Education Centre on Bath Street. Only £1 per person!

Following that at 11.30am – 12.30pm, there will be STORYTELLING FOR KIDS and their grown ups – a family storytelling session of monsters, heroes and probably farts.

And for the grown ups, I’ll be doing some ADULTS ONLY STORYTELLING at the 65 Club from 9 to 10pm on Saturday – Likely some spooky and bawdy tales just before Susie’s Singing Session!

Of course there are many many other amazing concerts, workshops and sessions going on throughout the festival, many of which have no charge – have a look at their web page for more details!

Home from Glastonbury!

Well that’s been an exhausting but fantastic trip away to #GlastonburyFestival where I was just one of the fantastic storytellers telling tales in the #kidzfield and #greenfutures Field!

Loads of photos to come once I’ve got the umpteen loads of washing done 😉

In the meantime here’s a wee post about what’s coming up, and a photo of the Kidz Field opening from Duck In A Dress !

In about half an hour I’m heading off to North East Sensory Services to tell some local tales!

Tomorrow I have my last visit to Turriff Academy as part of my Scottish Book Trust #liveliterature residency! 🙁

On Thursday evening I’ll be helping some local Rainbows with their Storytelling Badge

And Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the Stonehaven Folk Festival! Another post on that to come 😃

Come along for a story!

STORY CREATION WORKSHOPS AT GILCOMSTOUN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Here are some photos from my story creation project with Gilcomstoun Primary School. Primaries 1 – 7 and I created 6 stories about their learner dispositions – Bravery, Collaboration, Creativity, Determination, Motivation and Independence. What a wonderfully creative bunch!!

Class after class I was impressed by the pupils energy, creativeness and fun 😁

Their stories included – a brave cook, a mystical bracelet, a kraken on top of Marischal College, neolithic farming, a poisonous platypus, and of course an alien toddler saving the day!

The pupils will be drawing the (super) heroes from their stories and I can’t wait to see them. Thanks all at Gilcomstoun Primary for such a wonderful story creation experience! 😃

If your school has learner characteristics/dispositions and you’d like your pupils to work with a storyteller to create some stories – please contact me. Details in the “contacts” page

What’s going on?

I have been a very silent Storyteller on the socials this last wee while!

But silence doesn’t mean I’ve been sleeping. (Definitely not. I’ve been told by the small that I tell stories in my sleep)

Instead I’ve been busy closing out/working on a few projects – such as the fantastic story creation sessions at Gilcomstoun Primary School, my #liveliterature residency at Turriff Academy … and of course preparing for the Summer’s festivals!

I’ve got 3 big new stories (not just wee stories, big stories) for my sessions at the Green Futures Field and Kidz Field at Glastonbury and already I’m looking at new stories for Halloween.

Busy busy indeed! 😃

Turriff Academy Live Literature Residency – Bothy Ballads

We’ve had some brilliant work from the S2 Students at Turriff Academy of late!

I asked them to write a “Bothy Ballad” based on their own lives. You can read them at our blog for the Turriff Academy #LiveLiterature Residency here – https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/as/turriffacademyliveliterature/

My friend Natalie Chalmers, a bothy ballad singer, was up at the weekend and had a read over what we’ve had from the pupils so far. She recorded a wee message for the pupils which you can view here – 🙂

Turriff Academy True Stories

It’s a snow day today, so no Live Literature visit to Turriff Academy for me today

Instead I’ve been reading over the fantastic work done by the two S2 classes!

One of the homework tasks they’ve been set is to go off and speak to family member or friend to find out some of their own stories.

Pupils asked questions like “What’s the naughtiest thing you did as a child?”

“What was school like when you were younger?”

“Do you have any stories of petty revenge?

“What news story do you particularly remember?”

We’ve had some amazing responses which will be posted on the S2′ Live Literature Residency Blog which you can find here – blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/turriffacademyliveliterature/

Two Live Literature Events!

I have been totally rubbish at posting since Spectra – probably still coming down after all those Irn Bru Jelly Babies 🤣

But I have been busy!

I’ve had two #LiveLiterature visits from @scottishbooktrust
One at Kemnay Academy – where we spoke about boulder hurling giants and other local myths and legends. Of course I forgot to get a photo!
But I did manage to get a photo at Charleston Library 😃 Here’s the P6s from the local school (who knew all about Gardieloo!)
Thankyou librarians, teachers and pupils for two fantastic visits!!
