Here’s mi – playing catchy uppy with the socials again!
I had a wonderful visit to Balmedie School last week! The P4 classes have been learning all about the Vikings – so I went along to tell some stories and show the pupils some materials from Viking life.
The pupils enjoyed hearing about Thor’s wedding and how he got Mjolnir back from the ice giant Thrym and the stupid death of Sigurd the Mighty
Thanks for inviting me along Balmedie Primary School!
A couple of photos from my visit to St Cyrus National Nature Reserve last Sunday! Elsie the Fishwife and I met some braw fowk and told some local tales, fisherfolk stories and stories about the local wildlife.
…. And I’ll be back at St Cyrus National Nature Reserve on Sunday 27th October for a couple of Halloween sessions – one for the kids, and one Adults Only with stories unsuitable for under 16s.
Fit a grand day for a tour of Peterheid! Thanks so much everyone who came along to today’s tours of Peterhead based on The Peterhead Trail
The sun was out and it was truly the start of spring as we had tales of magistrates with double lives, the De’il causing a stooshie in kirk, a disorderly drinking den and of course Fa Hingit The Monkey!
Hopefully the tours will run again during the summer holidays as they proved to be very popular. And thanks so much to everyone who gave me their own stories of The Bloo Toon or emailed me resulting in more intriguing information! 🙂
The last few weeks have been a quiet one for me – not having a voice does enforce no storytelling!
However I’ve been able to spend that time learning even more about the Cordiner family toon of Peterheid! My dad aye made sure I knew loads of stories from Boddam and the Bloo Toon, but thanks to the The Peterhead Trail, there’s so much more to share!
For those of you booked on the tours, I’m looking forward to sharing it all on Saturday!
Guided tour of The Peterhead Trail this Easter School Holiday
Embark on a historic adventure and step back in time as our knowledgeable guide, Pauline, leads you through the streets of Peterhead. From familiar landmarks to stories of krakens and witches, uncover the stories that have shaped this coastal town into what it is today.
Explore hidden treasures whilst discovering hidden corners and secret spots that even the locals might not know about! This tour takes you on a journey to reveal the lesser-known tales and intriguing anecdotes that add depth to Peterhead’s history.
Learn from local expert Pauline who is a passionate historian and storyteller ready to share her expertise and insights with you. Gain a deeper understanding of the town’s heritage, from its modest beginnings to its pivotal role in maritime trade and beyond.
This tour is aimed at families with children aged 8 and over due to the amount of walking and the stories that will be told

As the storytelling will be held in the Farming Museum, the spooky tales will have a country/farming flavour, with maybe a couple of tales from Peterhead and Fraserburgh for the folks travelling out from there – The session will be held between 2.30 and 3.30pm and is a Free Event for all the family! Book your tickets by following this link – https://livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/october-programme
Why not also pop in for their Wash Days event the day before – see how the washing was done for a big farm toun back in the day!
This is just a wee selection of the amazing photos taken by Windswept Stories Photography last week doon at the beach and Fittie. (And it was really hard to choose which ones to put up!)
I wanted some photos with Elsie (she’s my wee fishwife pal) and the creel which I picked up from Fancy That? the other week.
Elsie is a right gossip and we had a yap to some of the Fittie residents and visitors – Sarah managed to capture it all so well!
Elsie the Fishwife is delighted because she knows she’ll now be travelling to our storytelling sessions in style!
I have been looking for an authentic fishwife’s creel for years, and finally I got one yesterday from Fancy That? in Edzell! (We enjoyed our nosey around at all the other amazing things and will have a nosey at their shop Ivy’s Emporium next time we’re in Banff)
The creel came from Whitehills near Banff and has been well looked after, so it’s perfect for another few decades use. If you would like a fully costumed storytelling fishwife for your event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch
The students had been collecting stories from family members and friends and I was looking forward to hearing them – but that will now be postponed until January.
Oh well… I thought I’d find out what the fairies were up to!
